Peanut Butter Makes History as First Dog to Participate in Speedrun at Charity Event

On January 16, Peanut Butter made history by becoming the first dog to ever participate in a speedrun at the annual Awesome Games Done Quick charity event. Despite not setting a new record or beating his previous personal best, Peanut Butter, a Shiba Inu, is still a very good boy who deserves all the pets and treats.

Last year, Peanut Butter’s owner announced that the talented dog would be taking part in the charity event, which aims to raise millions of dollars for various charities, including Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Peanut Butter’s game of choice for the speedrun was Gyromite, a Nintendo Entertainment System launch game released in 1985.

Equipped with a custom controller with big buttons and receiving support from his owner as needed, Peanut Butter attempted to set a new record earlier today. Despite not surpassing his previous best time, Peanut Butter still holds the record for the fastest dog to complete Gyromite’s B Game. He is also the only dog to hold that record on Speedrun.com, coming close to the best Game B record set by a human.

Peanut Butter’s owner, speedrunner JSR, expressed his pride in the dog’s achievement, stating, ‘This took years of training. I wanted to train him to do something special, when I realized as a puppy that he was much smarter than most other dogs I’ve seen. Since I’m a speedrunner and PB was literally named after getting a ‘P’ [personal best] in a speedrun it only made sense to me.’

While Peanut Butter may not be the most skilled gamer in the world, his participation in the speedrun event has garnered widespread appreciation, solidifying his status as the best and least mediocre gamer on the planet.
