Paul Thomas Anderson to Direct Untitled Film for Warner Bros Starring DiCaprio, Penn, and Hall

Paul Thomas Anderson is set to direct an untitled film for Warner Bros, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Regina Hall. The film, which is set to begin production this year in California, will mark Anderson’s most commercial endeavor to date, with a significant budget to match. Anderson, who also wrote the script, will produce the film alongside Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.

While the details of the film are being kept under wraps, it is known to be set in a contemporary setting. The project stems from the successful collaboration between Anderson and Warner Bros Picture Group co-chairs/CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, following the critical acclaim of Anderson’s last film, ‘Licorice Pizza.’

In addition to DiCaprio, Penn, and Hall, the film will feature a substantial ensemble cast, with further details yet to be revealed. The upcoming project holds significant weight for Warner Bros and its executives, offering an opportunity to shift the studio’s narrative following a challenging 2023.

DiCaprio, fresh from his involvement in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ finds himself in the midst of the Oscar race alongside Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, and Eric Roth. Meanwhile, Sean Penn has been making waves with his role in ‘Daddio,’ a fall festival favorite, and Regina Hall is set to star in the Geremy Jasper-directed rock opera ‘Odessa’ for Searchlight.
