Otis to Modernize Elevators and Escalators in Burj Khalifa

Otis Worldwide Corporation, a global leader in elevator and escalator manufacturing, has secured a contract with master developer Emaar Properties to modernize 34 of the 57 elevators and all eight escalators in the iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building located in Dubai. The project also includes servicing of all units for an additional 10 years.
According to Otis, the company had previously installed the building’s original two double-deck elevators and escalators. The elevators, traveling at speeds of up to 10 meters per second, transport passengers from the ground floor to the observation deck on the 124th and 125th floors in just 60 seconds.
As part of the modernization project, Otis will replace the current Elevator Management System, EMS Panorama, with an upgraded version that will provide real-time remote control of equipment and management of scheduled tasks. The enhanced system aims to improve efficiency, reduce wait times, and ensure faster and more efficient journeys for visitors and occupants of the Burj Khalifa.
With over 50 years of presence in the UAE, Otis brings its extensive experience from modernizing other iconic projects such as the Empire State Building in the USA, Egée Tower in Paris, and Elevador Lacerda in Brazil to minimize disruption to occupants and the approximately 17 million annual visitors to the Burj Khalifa.
Enrique Miñarro Viseras, Otis EMEA President, expressed pride in the company’s work in the Burj Khalifa and emphasized their commitment to providing exceptional service for the next decade. Ahmed Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties, acknowledged Otis for their previous equipment installation in 2010 and expressed confidence in their ability to modernize the equipment with the latest systems and technology.
The modernization project is set to further enhance the iconic status of the Burj Khalifa and ensure a seamless experience for millions of visitors and occupants for years to come.
