Opera, the Norwegian tech company, has unveiled the latest version of its flagship AI-centric browser, Opera One R2, for testing in the Developer stream. This new version, following the initial launch of Opera One in 2023, focuses on enhancing AI capabilities, particularly in the realm of multimedia experiences.
One of the key features of Opera One R2 is the integration of image generation and image understanding tools, allowing users to upload images for analysis by the native chatbot, Aria. Aria, the browser’s intelligent assistant, now offers a Voice Output option to read answers aloud and a Page Context Mode for summarizing, translating, or extracting information from webpages.
In addition to AI advancements, Opera has revamped its multimedia Player, enabling functionalities like pausing or skipping songs without switching tabs. The browser also introduces innovative tab-related features, including Split Screen for multitasking with two tabs side by side, a tab management system for users with numerous tabs, and the option to label tabs with emojis.
While Opera currently holds a 5.1% market share in Europe and 2.54% globally, it faces stiff competition from dominant players like Google Chrome and Safari. However, the growing AI trend in the tech industry presents Opera with opportunities for expansion, especially as it integrates large language models into its browser.
As Opera One R2 enters testing with a planned full release later this year, tech enthusiasts can explore the browser’s new features and capabilities in the Developer stream. Stay tuned for updates on Opera’s innovative developments in the evolving landscape of AI-driven web browsing.
