Official Trailer for Doc ‘Wild Wild Space’ About 2 Rocket Companies

July 11, 2024

You’ve heard about the billionaire space race. This isn’t that movie. HBO has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film called Wild Wild Space, arriving for streaming later this month on Max. Less than one hundred miles above our heads is where some of our solar system’s most valuable real estate lives: Low Earth Orbit. This is an extraterrestrial land grab, a galactic Wild West where the cowboys are visionaries, tinkerers, and capitalists dead set on owning the future. From spaceports at the edge of the earth to local communities that are being transformed and upended by these technologies, Wild Wild Space thrusts the audience into this critical and unknown world. This compelling doc film chronicles the fierce competition to tackle humanity’s next great frontier & the dark side of capitalism’s insatiable appetite for profit. It focuses on the intense rivalry between two visionaries and founders of contesting rocket companies: Chris Kemp (Astra) and Peter Beck (Rocket Lab). Everything about what this film shows us worries me as space is not a place for this kind of crazed gold rush, alas it’s all happening anyway.

Wild Wild Space focuses on the intense rivalry between two visionaries and founders of contesting rocket companies, Chris Kemp and Peter Beck. Their mission transcends mere competition: it’s a strategic bid to outdo each other, disrupt Elon Musk’s cosmic dominance, & claim significant shares in the burgeoning space industry. Amidst triumphs and challenges, Kemp and Beck usher in a new era for space exploration in Lower Earth Orbit and beyond. The stakes rise as they race against time to deploy commercial satellites for prestigious clients, including Planet Labs, led by visionary Will Marshall, encapsulating their shared goal — to redefine space, one satellite launch at a time. Wild Wild Space is directed by indie doc filmmaker Ross Kauffman, director of the other doc films Born Into Brothels: Calcutta’s Red Light Kids, E-Team, Tigerland, and Of Medicine & Miracles previously, plus many other short doc films as well. It’s produced by Jaye Callahan, Ashlee Vance, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Adam McKay, Todd Schulman, Christopher Collins, Lydia Tenaglia, Craig H. Shepherd. This initially premiered at the 2024 DC/DOX Film Festival this year. HBO will debut Wild Wild Space streaming on Max starting July 17th, 2024 this summer. Intrigued?
