No. 1 Oklahoma Women’s Gymnastics Team Gears Up for Big 12 Championship

The No. 1 Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team is gearing up to compete at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, March 23, at 6:15 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. The event will feature the Sooners facing off against BYU, Denver, Iowa State, and West Virginia, and will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Alex Perlman and Bridget Sloan providing commentary.

This championship holds special significance as it marks the Sooners’ final appearance before their transition to the SEC later this year. The team aims to secure their third consecutive Big 12 Championship and 15th overall title, as the event returns to Norman for the first time since 2019. Notably, the Sooners had previously clinched an unprecedented eight consecutive Big 12 titles before the 2021 season, making them the first program in conference history to achieve this feat. In 2023, the team set a conference championship record with a score of 198.400, claiming the title over Denver, Iowa State, and West Virginia. The Sooners boast an impressive history with 19 conference titles (five Big 8, 14 Big 12) and have secured 13 Big 12 titles under the guidance of 18th-year head coach K.J. Kindler. Kindler will conclude an illustrious 36-year career as a gymnast or coach in the Big 12/Big Eight at the upcoming event.

Additionally, five members of the No. 1 Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team have garnered a total of 10 All-Big 12 accolades, marking the 15th consecutive year that the Sooners have led the league in All-Big 12 selections. The squad includes gymnasts with the top three highest national qualifying scores (NQS) on each event, as well as the top two all-around gymnasts. The Sooners have made their presence felt across all events, with junior Jordan Bowers securing four honors, bringing her career total to 12 All-Big 12 accolades. Senior Katherine LeVasseur and sophomore Faith Torrez have also made notable contributions, each earning multiple honors. Seniors Audrey Davis and Ragan Smith have added to the team’s impressive showing with their respective nods on beam and bars.
