Say hello to the newly redesigned MOTU 828 audio interface, making its debut just in time for NAMM 2024. This long-awaited revamp brings a host of updated features catering to the needs of recording and content creation enthusiasts.
Originally introduced over two decades ago, the original 828 swiftly gained popularity and became a staple in professional project studios. Renowned for its high-quality converters, preamps, and flexible routing capabilities, the 828 garnered a strong following, particularly among Mac users.
Similar to its predecessor, the new 828 retains a pair of XLR combo preamps with front panel gain controls, accompanied by individually controlled headphone outputs. However, the clunky screen has been replaced with a 3.9-inch (480 x 128) full-color LCD display featuring metering on both analog and digital I/O, providing users with a comprehensive operational overview.
On the rear panel, users will find eight analog TRS line inputs, a pair of insert send/return channels, and eight DC-coupled TRS line outputs, enabling support for re-amping and modular CV control workflows. Additionally, the new 828 incorporates features like loopback from the popular M-series interfaces, making it well-suited for live streaming applications.
Furthermore, the CueMix 5 app facilitates wireless control from multiple devices by simply running them on the same network as the host PC, Mac, or iPad. Despite the significant shifts in the market since the reign of the 828 series, this new version offers a robust solution with professional-grade features, ensuring its durability for on-the-go usage.
The newly redesigned MOTU 828 is currently available from Thomann, priced at $1,099. For more information about the product, interested individuals can visit the official MOTU Newsroom and product page.
