Newbold Services LLC Announces Layoffs of Nearly 300 Workers in Pennsylvania

A recent announcement by South Carolina-based Newbold Services LLC has raised concerns as the company revealed plans to lay off nearly 300 workers, including janitorial staff providing services to Amazon warehouses in the Lehigh Valley area. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice, issued in accordance with federal law, affects eight locations in Pennsylvania, with the layoffs set to take effect on March 5.

The impacted Amazon warehouses include two in Upper Macungie Township and one in Palmer Township. According to Amazon spokesperson Sam Stephenson, the decision to change vendors is part of the company’s routine evaluation of vendor partners to meet business needs. Stephenson also mentioned that Newbold employees may have the opportunity to interview for positions as part of the transition.

This development has sparked concerns among the affected workers and the community at large. With the job market already facing challenges, the layoffs add to the uncertainties for those employed in the janitorial sector. The impact of such decisions on the local economy and the affected workers’ livelihoods remains a point of concern.

As the situation unfolds, it prompts discussions on the broader implications of vendor changes and workforce adjustments within the Amazon ecosystem. The developments also raise questions about the support and resources available to the affected workers as they navigate potential job transitions in the coming months.
