New Wireless Horipad for Steam Controller Set to Launch in Japan, Features Extensive Customization Options
Valve’s Steam platform is set to receive a new official controller, this time produced by Hori, a well-known gaming peripheral manufacturer. The new gamepad, named the Wireless Horipad for Steam, is scheduled to launch on October 31st in Japan, with no confirmed release date for other regions.
The controller, designed specifically for PC gaming, features touch sensors for gyro controls, Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity options, and extensive customization capabilities through Hori’s software. While it shares some similarities with Valve’s Steam Deck, it does not include rumble functionality or the signature trackpads of the handheld device.
Priced at 7,890 yen (approximately $50), the Wireless Horipad for Steam will be available in four color options – black, white, neon yellow, and violet. Despite its initial launch in Japan, there is speculation about a potential global release in the future.
Comparisons have been drawn between the Wireless Horipad and the wired Horipad Pro for Xbox consoles, with the former offering additional features such as wireless connectivity and programmable buttons. The new Steam controller boasts four programmable buttons, with two located on the rear and the others positioned on the front below the D-pad and the right thumbstick.
While the availability of the new controller outside of Japan remains uncertain, the decision to debut in the country aligns with the growing popularity of PC gaming in Japan. Valve’s collaboration with Hori for the Steam Deck distribution in Japan further underscores the market’s interest in gaming peripherals.
As the gaming community eagerly anticipates the official release of the Wireless Horipad for Steam, enthusiasts are hopeful for an expanded global launch to enhance the gaming experience on Valve’s platform.
