New Cybercrime Software ‘GEOBOX’ Sold on Telegram Allows Hackers to Convert Raspberry Pi into Anonymous Cyberattack Tools
A new cybercrime software called ‘GEOBOX’ is being sold on Telegram, allowing inexperienced hackers to convert Raspberry Pi mini-computers into anonymous cyberattack tools. The software is available for a subscription of $80 per month or a lifetime license for $700, payable in cryptocurrency.
Analysts at Resecurity discovered GEOBOX during an investigation into a high-profile banking theft impacting a Fortune 100 company. The tool was found to be used by malicious individuals to enhance their anonymity by strategically placing GEOBOX devices in various remote locations, serving as proxies and complicating the investigation and tracking process.
Resecurity warned in a report that GEOBOX is a highly capable tool that can complicate law enforcement tracking and investigation due to its ability to avoid storing any logs by default.
Raspberry Pi, which costs as little as $35, is an inexpensive yet capable system, making it an excellent disposable tool for cyberattacks. The availability of GEOBOX on Telegram raises concerns about the accessibility and potential misuse of such cybercrime software.
