NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Celebrates Pi Day with Deals and Educational Opportunities
Pi Day is a significant event celebrated by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and it also brings exciting deals for the general public. This year, Pi Day will be observed on Thursday, March 14.
The occasion is dedicated to Pi, a Greek letter representing the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, commonly approximated as 3.14. The concept of Pi Day was first introduced by a physicist at the San Francisco Exploratorium in 1988 and later recognized as National Pi Day by the U.S. Congress in 2009.
For Pasadena’s JPL, Pi Day offers valuable educational opportunities, and the institution annually presents math students with challenges related to the mathematical constant. This year, students are tasked with solving a problem involving a 15-second video of a cat chasing a laser transmitted from deep space to Earth in December, requiring them to calculate NASA’s transmission direction.
Aside from the educational aspect, Pi Day also brings delectable deals at various restaurants, particularly pizza parlors known for their circular-shaped offerings.
One such establishment, Blaze Pizza, is set to offer pizzas at a special price of $3.14 on March 14, 2024, in celebration of Pi Day.
For pizza enthusiasts and math aficionados alike, Pi Day holds both educational and gastronomic significance, making it a day to look forward to each year.
