The Metropolitan Opera’s production of ‘Roméo et Juliette’ is set to stream live in HD to cinemas worldwide, featuring Latin American soprano Nadine Sierra in the role of Juliette. Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Nadine discovered her passion for opera at the age of 10 and went on to become the youngest winner of the Met’s vocal competition, the Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition, at just 20 years old.
Having recently showcased her talents in Paris, Milan, Berlin, and London, Nadine Sierra sat down for an interview to discuss her approach to performances, her favorite travel destinations, and her New York highlights.
When asked about her favorite opera, Nadine expressed her enduring love for Puccini’s La Bohème, citing it as the production that ignited her passion for the art form. She revealed her aspiration to portray the role of Mimì, acknowledging the demanding nature of Puccini’s orchestrations and emphasizing the importance of patience in pursuing such a feat.
Revealing her pre-performance ritual, Nadine emphasized the significance of engaging in physical activity to prepare her body and mind for the demands of the performance. Stressing the physicality and focus required for opera singing, she underscored the value of a well-warmed body in delivering a high-level performance.
Following a performance, Nadine’s approach is one of celebration and relaxation. Whether it’s a dinner or tea outing with friends and colleagues, she prioritizes decompressing and savoring the post-performance moments, regardless of the outcome. Maintaining a balanced routine the next day, including staying active, eating healthily, and indulging in leisure activities, is integral to her post-performance recovery.
