Mother battling terminal cancer shares harsh reality of physical decline in hospice

A mother from Washington, D.C. who gained fame after releasing a song to support her seven-year-old son amid her battle with terminal cancer has shared the harsh reality of her physical decline while in a hospice.

31-year-old singer and songwriter Cat Janice was diagnosed with sarcoma, a form of cancer affecting bones or soft tissue, in early 2022. Despite undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, she continued to create and release new music and was informed she was cancer-free in July 2022.

However, in June 2023, Cat announced via social media that the disease had returned, this time affecting her lungs. She has now disclosed how she feels ‘trapped in a near lifeless body’ while receiving palliative care.

After a prolonged struggle with the illness, Cat revealed last month that ‘cancer had won’ and that she only had a few ‘weeks or months’ left. As a final effort to raise funds for her son Loren, she released a ‘farewell song’ titled ‘Dance You Outta My Head’.

In her most recent video, Cat collaborated with content creator Sarah Cothran for a ‘haunting cover’ of the track. She expressed her gratitude for the support she has received, stating, ‘I’ve always been strong so spending weeks unable to walk has left me feeling trapped.’

Despite the difficulties, Cat found solace in the thought of dancing with God and soaring above in heaven.
