Montreal Man Arrested in Calgary for Human Trafficking and Money Laundering

A Montreal man, David Maignan, 24, has been arrested in Calgary by officers with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team on Thursday afternoon as part of a human trafficking investigation. Maignan was apprehended at Macleod Trail and 12th Avenue S.E. after attempting to flee but was again apprehended by officers. He was arrested on nationwide warrants related to human trafficking and money laundering and has been charged for his attempt to escape police custody.

In 2018, a nationwide warrant out of Montreal had been issued for Maignan’s arrest on charges of procurement of a person under the age of 18, advertising sexual services, and receiving a material benefit derived from sexual services. Montreal police had indicated that Maignan may have been located in Montreal or Western Canada and that he went by the pseudonym “Lingo.”

It is unclear whether Thursday’s arrest is related to those charges. The arrest was part of a human trafficking investigation, and Maignan has been charged for his attempt to flee police.
