Popular tech YouTuber and automotive enthusiast Marques Brownlee, popularly known as MKBHD, recently gave a critical review of VinFast Auto’s VFS VF8 crossover SUV, highlighting its striking similarities to the Fisker Ocean SUV. Brownlee, who had previously labeled the Fisker Ocean as the ‘worst car’ he had ever reviewed, expressed his disappointment with the VF8 in a video review.
Brownlee pointed out several shortcomings in the VF8, including material choices, design, and driving dynamics. He criticized the use of poorer quality vegan leather seats and likened the center screen to an old Android tablet, describing it as ‘a bit odd’ and ‘cartoonish.’ Additionally, he highlighted the obnoxious beeping of driver aids and a reverse camera that he deemed ‘weirdly bad’ and reminiscent of the 1990s. Overall, Brownlee concluded that the VF8 is ‘just not a fun car to drive dynamically in any way’ and advised against purchasing it, particularly given its price of about $50,000.
Despite his unfavorable review, Brownlee acknowledged that he would still prefer the VF8 over the Fisker Ocean. However, he emphasized that the VF8 remains a poor choice in its price range, especially when compared to other SUVs such as the Ioniq 5, Mustang Mach-E, and the Model Y, which offer better driving dynamics.
Notably, Brownlee’s critique is not an isolated opinion, as other reviewers have also expressed dissatisfaction with the VF8. In a previous review, car-focused YouTube channel Donut concluded that the vehicle possesses ‘all the annoying things about EVs and none of the good stuff.’
Following Brownlee’s review, VinFast shares closed down 2.69% at $4.7 on Tuesday. The stock has experienced a 33.33% decline year-to-date, as reported by Benzinga Pro.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it remains crucial for manufacturers to address consumer concerns and deliver high-quality products that meet market expectations.
