Mission Zero Technologies Secures €25.4 Million in Series A Funding for Carbon Removal Mission
London-based Mission Zero Technologies has secured €25.4 million in Series A funding to further its mission of carbon removal worldwide. The funding round was led by 2150, with participation from World Fund, Fortescue, Siemens Financial Services, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures.
This investment will enable Mission Zero to expedite the development of a mass deployable direct air capture (DAC) product, capable of recovering 1,000 tonnes of atmospheric CO₂ annually. The company aims to scale this technology to unlock megatonne annual capacity by the end of the decade.
The urgent need to mitigate climate change and limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C has propelled the demand for large-scale CO₂ removal. Mission Zero, established in 2020, has been at the forefront of pioneering versatile direct air capture technology suitable for various industrial applications, locations, and scales. The company is committed to democratizing access to sustainable carbon sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Emulating biological processes, Mission Zero’s technology employs electricity and a liquid solution to capture atmospheric CO₂ in its organic form. The hyper-efficient electrochemical separation continuously regenerates the capture solution and concentrates CO₂ as a pure gas. Designed for rapid scaling and deployment, the technology is cost-effective, leveraging established supply chains and a modular design for global use. Moreover, it is energy efficient and compatible with renewable energy sources, allowing for flexible operation based on demand.
Mission Zero Technologies stands out as one of the few players in the direct air capture sector to transition from self-financed R&D pilot plants to commercially funded deployments with international clients. By the end of 2024, Mission Zero aims to have three operational systems in place.
