Milwaukee Film is gearing up to celebrate Black History Month with a special series of film showings, curated by its Black Lens program. This event, now in its sixth year, will feature a variety of films that aim to explore themes and narratives relevant to the Black experience.

Black Lens Programmer Marquise Mays and Community Programming Coordinator Deiva Motley recently provided insights into the film selections. The program is set to commence on Thursday, Feb. 1 with the screening of ‘Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.’ This will be followed by ‘The 50’ on Feb. 3, and a showing of the 1992 romantic comedy ‘Boomerang,’ starring Eddie Murphy, on Feb. 8, which will include a post-screening discussion.

The Black Lens Shorts Program, titled ‘Treasured Heirlooms,’ is scheduled for Feb. 10. This will be followed by ‘Nanny’ on Feb. 15, accompanied by a retrospective talk. ‘Invisible Beauty,’ a documentary focusing on racial diversity in the fashion industry, is set for Feb. 17. ‘Girl,’ a British feature, will be shown on Feb. 20, followed by ‘Know Your Place’ on Feb. 24.
