Michael Chandler Determined to Secure Main-Event Fight with Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler, the UFC fighter, is determined to secure a main-event fight with Conor McGregor despite missing out on a bout at UFC 300. Chandler expressed his desire to step into the octagon against ‘The Notorious’ one during an appearance on WWE Raw in Anaheim, Calif. Whether this will lead to a potential fight remains to be seen.

UFC president Dana White hinted at a future fight between McGregor and Chandler during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, stating that they will ‘eventually’ fight, with hopes for it to happen this year. However, McGregor’s announcement of a return to the Octagon during the UFC’s planned International Fight Week in Las Vegas this summer seems unlikely.

White explained that there is no set date for the fight and expressed hope for it to take place in the fall. McGregor had previously mentioned the bout would be at 185 pounds, although neither him nor Chandler have competed in the middleweight division. The weight at which they will compete, if the fight materializes, remains unconfirmed.

McGregor and Chandler were expected to fight following their coaching roles on the UFC’s reality series The Ultimate Fighter in 2023. McGregor, who is set to turn 36 in July, has fought only four times since winning the lightweight title in 2016, with three losses, including back-to-back defeats to Dustin Poirier in 2021.

Chandler, a former Bellator lightweight champion, also aims to bounce back from recent losses. Despite his popularity in the organization, he has faced setbacks, including a submission loss to Poirier in November 2022. Both fighters have struggled in recent bouts, and their potential matchup continues to generate interest among fans and the MMA community.
