I’m what you might call a light gamer – I love certain RPG games, like Baulder’s Gate 3 and ye old Dragon Age series, but by no means do I consider myself a true “gamer”. My family, however, does consist of avid gamers, so for the holidays I splurged on a virtual reality headset that we could all play together.

I certainly didn’t get it at this current Quest 2 deal, which is currently one of the lowest prices it’s ever been offered. If you’ve been on the fence about splurging on a VR headset, I’m diving into what makes this such a unique gift for the entire family, and why now may be one of the best times to buy.

Meta Quest 2: Advanced All-In-One Virtual Reality Headset (128GB)

Basic Kit: $199, was $249.99 at Amazon; $199 at Walmart

Meta Quest 2 Bundles And Accessories

Starter Bundle: $218.76, was $294.98 (25% off)

Comfort Bundle: $223.76, was $299.98 (25% off)

Active Bundle: $228.99, was $309.98 (26% off)

Power Bundle: $243.52, was $344.97 (29% off)

Quest 2 Elite Strap: $24.76, was $49.99 (50% off)

My suggestion is to upgrade to at least the Comfort Bundle (currently $223.76) which includes the Quest 2 Elite strap. It was a game changer when I purchased the sturdier headpiece. Without the Elite strap, the VR headset straps that come stock are elastic and prone to slipping.

Meta Quest 2 Vs. Quest 3

If you are a casual game player, the Quest 2 is all the power you need, in my opinion. If you want to explore VR without the upfront investment, and if you don’t plan to be using it hours every day (which I probably wouldn’t recommend for a beginner anyways), the Quest 2 is completely serviceable and extremely playable. It’s the same version I have used over the last year and enjoyed greatly.

Here’s a quick chart breakout of some of the different features that each version offers:

The Meta Quest 2 offers total immersion with the 3D positional audio, hand tracking with cameras and controllers, solid graphics and gameplay and decent (though not long-lasting) battery life.

The Meta Quest 3 (128GB) starts at $499, with the bundles jumping to $577 depending on the accessories you buy. With this new version, you get upgraded per
