During Passover, the culinary world sees a unique twist with matzo taking center stage in various dishes, including the beloved matzo pizza. This unleavened bread, resembling a cracker, becomes the base for a delightful pizza experience.
Matzo pizza has gained popularity among those celebrating Passover, offering a creative and tasty alternative to traditional pizza. One young enthusiast, 10-year-old Hudson Greenstein, discovered his love for matzo pizza during Passover two years ago.
His inspiration came from a visit to Nick’s Pizza & Ice Cream in Armonk, N.Y., where he decided to introduce matzo pizza to the menu. With the support of the restaurant, Hudson launched a successful pop-up named Yalla Matzah Pizza, where he crafted over 400 pizzas using Nick’s sauce, ingredients, and professional oven to achieve a thin-crust pizza experience.
The demand for Hudson’s matzo pizzas was so high that he expanded his venture to a second pop-up at Frankie’s Pizza & Restaurant in Merrick, N.Y. The unique combination of traditional matzo with classic pizza toppings created a flavorful and crispy treat that delighted customers.
Reflecting on his experience, Hudson shared his excitement in showcasing his creations to friends and customers. The use of a professional pizza oven elevated the taste and texture of the matzo pizza, bringing it closer to the authentic pizza experience.
Matzo pizza has become a standout dish during Passover, merging tradition with innovation to offer a delightful culinary experience for individuals looking to explore new flavors during the holiday season.
