A shocking incident unfolded on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Liberty of the Seas, as a 20-year-old passenger reportedly jumped overboard in front of his horrified family. The man, suspected to be intoxicated, is said to have exclaimed ‘I’ll fix this right now’ before leaping out of a window on the 18-storey vessel.
According to witnesses, the distressing event took place at around 4am while the ship was en route from Cuba to the Bahamas’ Grand Inagua Island. The man’s father and brother were said to have helplessly witnessed his impulsive decision to jump over the side of the ship, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation by the US Coast Guard.
Passenger Bryan Sims, who had been socializing with the young man and his brother, described the man as ‘pretty drunk’ and recounted the chilling moment when the man told his father ‘I’ll fix this now’ before leaping out of the window in front of everyone. Another passenger, Deborah Morrison, expressed the shock and horror that gripped the family, emphasizing the distressing nature of the situation.
Royal Caribbean, the operator of the cruise, swiftly initiated rescue efforts in collaboration with the US Coast Guard and is providing support to the family during this difficult time. The cruise line has refrained from divulging further details out of respect for the privacy of the guest and their family.
