LSU senior outfielder Ali Newland has been honored with the prestigious title of 2024 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, making her the second LSU softball athlete to achieve this recognition, following in the footsteps of Brittany Mack, who shared the honor in 2012.
Newland, a dedicated student-athlete, has been actively involved in community service initiatives, earning her a spot on the SEC Softball Community Service Team for three consecutive years. Her commitment to serving others was further recognized when she was named the SEC Brad Davis Community Service winner for the 2023-24 academic year.
Graduating in May 2024 with a degree in mass communications and a journalism concentration, Newland boasts an impressive 3.93 grade point average. Beyond her academic achievements, she leads her team in community service hours, participating in various events such as MLK Service Day, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Banquet, and the Geaux Teal organization.
As an ambassador for LSU Athletics, Newland’s impact extends far beyond the softball field. She actively promotes a range of sports and plays a vital role in producing content for LSU Gold and LSU Athletics’ social media platforms through her involvement with LSU’s South Stadium Productions.
Newland’s dedication to both her academic pursuits and her role as a community leader exemplifies her versatility and commitment to the LSU community. Her outstanding contributions and leadership have not only been instrumental in the success of the LSU softball team but have also left a lasting impact on the broader LSU Athletics community.
In addition to her recent accolade as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Newland’s role as a scholar, athlete, and community servant underscores her exceptional qualities and unwavering dedication to excellence both on and off the field.
