A receptionist from London, Lillie Barrett, shared her harrowing experience of going blind in one eye after getting false lashes fitted while wearing contact lenses. The incident occurred in November 2022 when Lillie had Russian lashes applied while still wearing her contact lenses, leading to an itchy left eye.

Following the lash appointment, Lillie noticed her eye becoming red and swollen, prompting her to seek drops from a chemist. However, her condition worsened as her eye swelled, and yellow discharge accumulated on her cornea, ultimately resulting in complete loss of vision in her left eye.

After visiting the emergency department at St Helier Hospital in Sutton, Lillie was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer, a serious condition that can lead to vision impairment. While the exact cause of the infection remains uncertain, Lillie suspects that bacteria from the lash procedure may have contaminated her contact lens.

Corneal ulcers are known to be more prevalent among contact lens wearers, as per the NHS. In light of her ordeal, Lillie advocates for the use of daily disposable contact lenses over monthly ones, emphasizing the importance of hygiene to prevent such incidents.
