Lionel Messi Set to Return to Argentina’s Starting Lineup for Copa América Quarterfinal Clash Against Ecuador

Lionel Messi is set to make a return to the starting lineup for Argentina in the upcoming Copa América quarterfinal clash against Ecuador. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday at the NRG Stadium in Houston.

Having missed Argentina’s final group stage game due to a right leg injury sustained in a previous match against Chile, Messi’s availability for the quarterfinal was uncertain. Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni had mentioned that the decision to include Messi in the lineup would depend on his fitness closer to the match.

Scaloni stated, ‘Depending on how he responds, we will decide. There are ramifications when Leo is not able to play. We’ll try to make sure that he can play. If not, we’ll try to find the best solution for the team. I will talk to him today. It’s only fair that he can take his time and be able to train as much as he can.’

If Messi features in Sunday’s game, it will be his third appearance in this year’s Copa América tournament. The 37-year-old captain has already showcased his playmaking abilities by providing 18 assists, setting a new record for the most assists in the competition’s history. However, he is yet to score a goal in the current tournament.

The Copa América quarterfinal between Argentina and Ecuador will be broadcasted live on FOX at 5 p.m. ET. Fans can also catch the action on the FOX Sports app for an immersive viewing experience.
