Lightforge Games Announces Layoffs and Pauses Project ORCS Development

Lightforge Games, a promising game development studio, has recently announced significant layoffs affecting the majority of its workforce. The company is also pausing the development of its anticipated online RPG, Project ORCS. This decision comes as a result of the studio’s inability to secure the necessary funding to continue the project.

Co-founder and CEO of Lightforge Games, Matt Schembari, shared the news on LinkedIn, expressing the challenges faced by the studio. Despite the setback, a ‘skeleton team’ will remain in place to oversee the future direction of the company.

In a heartfelt message, Schembari acknowledged the ambitious nature of Project ORCS, emphasizing the team’s dedication to innovative storytelling and a desire to break new ground in the gaming industry. However, financial constraints have forced the studio to make tough decisions, including the layoffs and development pause.

The studio emphasized its commitment to supporting the affected employees during this transition period. The team will work together to assist individuals in stabilizing their situations, exploring new opportunities, and continuing their passion for game development.

Founded in 2021 by industry veterans from Epic Games and Blizzard Entertainment, Lightforge Games had initially garnered attention after securing a $5 million investment. The studio’s vision for collaborative gaming experiences resonated with many, but the recent funding challenges have led to this unfortunate turn of events.

As the gaming community processes this news, the industry continues to evolve with various developments and challenges. Stay tuned for more updates and insights on the ever-changing landscape of video game development.
