LG Updates Apple Music App on Smart TVs to Support Dolby Atmos

LG has recently updated its Apple Music app to include support for Dolby Atmos, marking a significant milestone as the first smart TV manufacturer to offer this feature. This development allows users to enjoy immersive audio that enhances the spatial perception of sound, a capability previously only achievable with external hardware.

The enhancement has been verified on the LG GX OLED TV from the 2020 lineup, with expectations that it will be compatible with all LG TVs that support Dolby Atmos from 2020 onwards. While users can utilize the TV’s built-in speakers to experience this new feature, LG recommends pairing the audio with a compatible surround sound system for the best audio experience, as it can optimize the Dolby Atmos technology more effectively.

With this update to the Apple Music app on LG TVs, the need for additional Apple hardware is eliminated. Previously, Dolby Atmos support for Apple Music was only accessible on TVs through the Apple TV 4K, in conjunction with Apple’s HomePods or Sonos speakers connected via the Sonos app. This advancement is likely to prompt other smart TV manufacturers to introduce Dolby Atmos support in their own Apple Music apps.

LG’s initiative to incorporate Dolby Atmos support in its Apple Music app signifies a step towards enhancing the audio experience for TV users, offering a more immersive and high-quality sound output directly through the smart TV platform.
