West Virginia officials, including Governor Jim Justice and West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee, are gearing up for a major economic development announcement today, alongside LG CEO William Cho. The South Korea electronics company is set to unveil a series of projects following a meeting of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority.
LG’s CEO will join Gee and Justice at 4 p.m. at the West Virginia Culture Center on the grounds of the State Capitol Complex in Charleston for what is being described as a ‘transformational announcement.’ The event comes after a 1 p.m. special meeting of the Economic Development Authority Board of Directors, where they are expected to consider approval of a resolution related to the provision of a loan or loans to support a project (or projects) in Kanawha, Jefferson, and/or Monongalia Counties, West Virginia.
While the agenda for the meeting is not available on the EDA website, sources suggest that the proposed LG projects may involve IT services and a potential innovation hub. LG, a South Korea-based manufacturer of technology and consumer electronic goods, has an international workforce of more than 74,000. The company’s Business Solutions division focuses on IT products, and it previously launched an innovation hub called NOVA in 2021.
