DJ Mister Cee, a legendary figure in the hip-hop community, has passed away at the age of 57. The news was announced by Hot 97 host Peter Rosenberg on X, formerly known as Twitter. Radio host Shelley Wade also confirmed Cee’s passing on Hot 97.
DJ Mister Cee was known for his impactful contributions to the music industry, having notably produced Big Daddy Kane’s debut album ‘Long Live the Kane’ in 1988 and The Notorious B.I.G.’s debut ‘Ready to Die’ in 1994. His influence and talent as a DJ were widely acknowledged, with tributes pouring in from fellow artists and industry insiders.
Born in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York City in 1966, Mister Cee’s career was marked by significant achievements and contributions. He rose to prominence as the DJ for Big Daddy Kane before making a lasting impact on New York’s Hot 97. Despite facing challenges and controversies, he maintained a drama-free career in radio for the remainder of his life.
In an interview with XXL back in 2014, Mister Cee expressed that if Biggie were still alive, he would be proud of the accomplishments he made in his career both in production and on the radio.
