La Roche-Posay is kicking off Skin Cancer Awareness Month with a free public skin cancer screening event in New York City’s Flatiron Plaza on May 6th. This event aims to raise awareness about the importance of sun safety and early detection of skin cancer.
According to the Melanoma Research Alliance, over 100,000 new cases of invasive melanoma are expected to be diagnosed in the US this year. However, with early detection, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is as high as 99%. La Roche-Posay, known for its expertise in UV protection, is committed to educating the public on sun safety and making sunscreen a priority for public health.
For the past fourteen years, La Roche-Posay has been leading the fight against skin cancer through its annual awareness campaign, SOS – Save Our Skin. This campaign aims to inform the public about the dangers of UV rays, emphasize the importance of using broad-spectrum sunscreen, and advocate for daily sunscreen use through regular skin cancer screenings.
On Melanoma Monday, La Roche-Posay will host a free skin cancer screening event at Flatiron Plaza in partnership with The Dermatology Specialists, New York City’s largest dermatology practice. The event will run from 10am to 7pm and will offer free skin checks conducted by trained healthcare professionals.
As part of their commitment to the cancer community, La Roche-Posay will donate $5 to the American Cancer Society for every skin check completed during the summer, up to $25,000. Visitors to the event will also receive samples of La Roche-Posay’s award-winning Anthelios sun care products and educational materials on sun safety.
Additionally, La Roche-Posay will be promoting sun safety education and encouraging regular skin checks in three New York City communities to further spread awareness about skin cancer prevention.
