Kylian Mbappe scores hat-trick as PSG thrash Montpellier 6-2

Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick as Paris St-Germain thrashed Montpellier 6-2 in Ligue 1, extending their lead at the top of the table to 12 points. Vitinha opened the scoring for PSG, followed by Mbappe’s first goal from a tight angle. Arnaud Nordin and Teji Savanier scored for Montpellier, drawing them level at 2-2. However, Mbappe’s 50th-minute strike and two more goals from him, along with goals from Lee Kang-in and Nuno Mendes, secured PSG’s dominant victory.

This victory sees Mbappe’s league goal tally for the season rise to 24, marking his third hat-trick of the campaign. Despite recent benchings, including being substituted at half-time in a previous game, Mbappe’s performance against Montpellier showcased his exceptional talent.

With the announcement of his move to Real Madrid at the end of the season, Mbappe’s focus now turns to securing European glory with PSG, as they are set to face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals. Additionally, PSG looks poised to secure their fourth league title in the past five seasons, as they have moved further ahead of second-placed Brest in the Ligue 1 standings.

In other Ligue 1 matches, Brest drew 1-1 at home to Lille, while Clermont secured a 2-1 victory over Le Havre. Monaco and Lorient ended their match in a 2-2 draw, and Reims claimed a 2-1 victory over Metz. Rennes also secured a 2-0 win against Marseille.

As it stands, PSG leads the Ligue 1 table with 59 points, followed by Brest with 47 points, and Monaco with 46 points. Lille and Nice complete the top five teams in the standings.
