Kiran George Falls Short in Korea Masters 2024 Semi-Finals Against World Champion Vitidsarn

Kiran George’s remarkable journey at the Korea Masters 2024 came to a halt in the semi-finals, where he faced off against Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, the reigning world champion and silver medallist from the Paris 2024 Olympics. The match, held in Iksan, showcased George’s tenacity but ultimately ended in a 21-12, 21-20 defeat.

The 24-year-old Indian shuttler, currently ranked 41st in the world, entered the match as the sole representative from India in the men’s singles event. The contest began evenly, with both players tied at 5-5 before Vitidsarn surged ahead, capitalizing on a four-point streak to take control of the first game.

In the second game, George displayed remarkable resilience. After falling behind at 4-4, Vitidsarn quickly extended his lead to 13-4. However, George refused to back down, rallying to level the score at 20-20. Despite his valiant effort, Vitidsarn managed to clinch the final two points, securing his spot in the finals.

Kiran George’s performance at the Korea Masters was commendable, particularly considering he entered the tournament unseeded. His journey included a notable victory over fifth-seed Takuma Obayashi from Japan in the quarter-finals, following an impressive win against third-seed Chi Yu Jen of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16.

This semi-final match marked the third encounter between George and Vitidsarn, with George having previously won against the Thai player at the Malaysia International Series in 2017. However, this latest defeat adds to George’s record, making it two losses against Vitidsarn in their three meetings.

George’s achievements in badminton are noteworthy, having previously secured titles at the Odisha Open 2022 and the Indonesia Masters 2023. His participation in the Korea Masters 2024 has further solidified his reputation as a rising star in the sport.
