Kevin Costner Reveals Details About Potential ‘Bodyguard’ Sequel Starring Princess Diana
Kevin Costner recently revealed details about a potential sequel to the iconic movie ‘The Bodyguard’ that never came to fruition, which was intended to star Princess Diana. The Academy Award-winning actor shared insights about the proposed film during an appearance on ‘The Howard Stern Show.’
Costner expressed that the sequel, which was meant to follow the success of the original 1992 film featuring Costner and Whitney Houston, never materialized because he felt Princess Diana was irreplaceable. He mentioned that Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, facilitated their introduction.
Recalling a conversation with Princess Diana around 1996, Costner mentioned that she was enthusiastic about the project as she was on the verge of finalizing her divorce from Prince Charles. Diana expressed her interest in exploring new opportunities, indicating her readiness for a change in her life.
Tragically, before production could commence, Princess Diana passed away in a tragic car accident in 1997 at the age of 36 while trying to evade the paparazzi in Paris. Following her untimely death, Costner claimed that Buckingham Palace refuted any involvement Diana may have had in the film, leading to backlash from the royal family.
Costner also shared a touching interaction he had with Prince William years later, where the prince mentioned that his mother had a fondness for Costner. Despite Costner’s revelations, the royal family has not issued any statements regarding the actor’s comments about Princess Diana.
