Kanye West Forced to Sell Tadao Ando-Designed Malibu Mansion Due to Financial Troubles

Kanye West, also known as Ye, is facing financial troubles and has been forced to list his Tadao Ando-designed Malibu mansion for $78.2 million. This decision comes after the rapper and designer spent $84.5 million on the coastal property a few years ago.

Sources reveal that West’s shaky finances have played a significant role in his decision to sell the oceanfront abode, even at a potential loss. The renovations on the property have reportedly turned out to be more challenging and costly than initially anticipated, contributing to the decision to unload the mansion.

The beachfront property, acquired by West in 2021, has been undergoing an ambitious renovation project that remains incomplete. According to Jason Oppenheim of the Oppenheim Group and ‘Selling Sunset,’ the dwelling is in need of significant work, including windows, doors, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and interior finishes. It is estimated that several million dollars will be required to complete the house.

Originally crafted in 2013 by Wall Street titan Richard Sachs, the property has been a seven-year project involving meticulous planning, permitting, and construction. The house, constructed from Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Ando’s signature smooth concrete, boasts four bedrooms, expansive window openings facing the water, and an additional 140 square meters of deck space.

However, West’s troubles extend beyond the incomplete renovation. In September, he faced legal issues when a contractor/caretaker sued him, alleging grueling work conditions, long workdays, and substandard living conditions.

Despite the property’s architectural significance and coastal appeal, West’s financial woes have led to the decision to sell the Malibu mansion, potentially incurring a substantial loss.
