Jon Cryer Shares Insights on ’80s Brat Pack Era at Tribeca Film Festival Premiere

Jon Cryer, known for his iconic roles in 1980s films, shared insights during the premiere of Andrew McCarthy’s documentary BRATS at the Tribeca Film Festival. Cryer, 59, dismissed the notion of being mistaken for fellow ’80s heartthrob Matthew Broderick, highlighting the difference in their hair situations.

Reflecting on the Brat Pack era, Cryer humorously mentioned that he and Broderick have ‘parted ways’ in terms of being confused for each other. He playfully noted Broderick’s ‘magnificent head of hair’ while acknowledging his own hair evolution in a different direction.

BRATS, a documentary by McCarthy, delves into the golden age of the Brat Pack, featuring interviews with stars like Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, and Cryer. The film reunites these iconic actors from movies like St. Elmo’s Fire, The Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles, reminiscing about their shared experiences.

Cryer also opened up about his brief relationship with Demi Moore during the filming of No Small Affair in 1984. He revealed that their affair was short-lived, mentioning Moore’s struggles with drug addiction, a battle she faced during that time.

Moore, who has been candid about her addiction journey, sought help in the 1980s and later faced a relapse in 2012, seeking treatment for addiction and an eating disorder. Cryer’s recollection sheds light on the challenges Moore faced, offering a glimpse into their shared past.

The premiere of BRATS brought together these ’80s stars, showcasing their bond and the lasting impact of their work on the film industry. Cryer’s anecdotes provide a unique perspective on the era, adding depth to the nostalgia surrounding these beloved movies.
