At the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Jennifer Lawrence and Lenny Kravitz, co-stars from ‘The Hunger Games’ series, had a heartwarming reunion, marking over a decade since their last film together. While Lawrence missed out on the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, her lively antics and reunion with Kravitz stole the show.
The duo, known for their roles as Katniss and Cinna in ‘The Hunger Games’ (2012) and ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ (2013), delighted fans with their nostalgic encounter at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Their on-screen chemistry as Katniss and her stylist, Cinna, had left a lasting impression on audiences.
For ‘Hunger Games’ enthusiasts, this reunion served as a delightful surprise, especially following the success of the movie prequel, ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,’ which resonated with audiences last fall. During her ‘No Hard Feelings’ press tour in June, Lawrence expressed her openness to reprising her role as Katniss, affirming her willingness to revisit the character if the right opportunity presented itself.
However, the franchise’s original producer, Nina Jacobson, and director, Francis Lawrence, remain cautious about the potential for a sequel, as they believe Katniss’ story has reached its conclusion. Suzanne Collins, the author of ‘The Hunger Games,’ holds the key to any future developments involving Katniss. Both Jacobson and Lawrence emphasized that if Collins were to revisit the character, they would be eager to explore new storytelling opportunities.
The latest prequel, ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,’ set 60 years before the original ‘Hunger Games’ narrative, featured Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, offering a fresh perspective on the dystopian universe. This temporal shift effectively ruled out Lawrence’s return as Katniss, as the prequel took the spotlight with a new lead.
