JAKKS Pacific has issued a recall for their children’s Mario Kart Ride-On Racer Car toys due to a potential crash hazard. The recall affects the Mario Kart 24V Ride-On Racer Cars with specific date codes only. These battery-operated ride-on toys may pose a danger if the acceleration pedal becomes clogged with debris, causing it to stick after the user’s foot is removed.
Consumers who own the affected vehicles are advised to stop using them immediately and contact JAKKS Pacific for a free repair kit. The kit includes a replacement pedal along with installation instructions to address the issue.
According to the recall details, the vehicles in question are red, white, and blue in color with the letter ‘M’ in the center of a white circle on the front. They have an 8-character alphanumeric manufacturing date code located on the bottom of the blue panel on the vehicle’s underside. The specific date codes subject to the recall are 1752VE01, 1782VE01, 1952VE01, 2242VE01, 2352VE01, 2852VE01, and 0583VE01.
Since the recall was announced, there have been 65 reports of incidents where the pedals became clogged with debris, leading to sticking issues. Fifteen of the vehicles were reported to have crashed into permanent structures, resulting in one minor injury of a chafed hand.
The affected Mario Kart 24V Ride-On Racer Cars were sold online and in stores at various retailers including Target, Walmart, Entertainment Earth, and Nebraska Furniture Mart, as well as online at Amazon.com, Macy’s, and Game Stop between October 2022 and January 2024 for approximately $400.
JAKKS Pacific, the importer of the recalled toys, is based in Santa Monica, California, and the products were manufactured in China. Consumers who have purchased the affected vehicles are urged to contact JAKKS Pacific for further assistance and to ensure their safety.
