Jack Black to Join Cast of Minecraft Movie Adaptation

Jack Black is set to join the cast of the upcoming Warner Bros/Vertigo/Legendary film adaptation of the popular video game Minecraft, according to sources close to the production. The movie, led by Jason Momoa, is shrouded in secrecy regarding its plot and writing credits. However, it has been revealed that Black will be portraying the character of Steve in the highly anticipated project.

Joining Black in the cast are Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. Minecraft, developed by Mojang/Microsoft, has achieved immense success as the bestselling video game of all time, with 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players.

The Minecraft film is a collaboration between Vertigo, Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft, and Momoa’s On the Roam. The production boasts a stellar lineup of producers, including Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick. The movie’s executive producers are Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jonathan Spaihts.

Jack Black, known for his role as the villainous Bowser in the highly successful The Super Mario Bros Movie, has recently received his third Golden Globe nomination for co-writing and performing the movie’s love ballad “Peaches.” Additionally, he won an Emmy for Outstanding Voice Performance in a Children’s or Young Teen Program for Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight. Black is also set to reprise his role as Po in the upcoming DreamWorks Animation feature Kung Fu Panda 4.

Aside from Minecraft, Jack Black is also starring in the upcoming Lionsgate film adaptation of the video game Borderlands and is currently on tour in Europe with his band Tenacious D. With a career spanning various successful franchises and critically acclaimed performances, Jack Black continues to solidify his status as a versatile and accomplished actor in the entertainment industry.
