Ingomar High School Wins MHSAA 2A Boys’ Basketball Championship in Thrilling Victory

Ingomar High School secured a thrilling victory over Bogue Chitto in the MHSAA 2A boys’ basketball championship, with a final score of 48-46. The game, held at the Mississippi Coliseum, saw a dramatic fourth quarter that ultimately determined the outcome.

Despite Bogue Chitto’s early lead, the game took a turn in the third quarter, with both teams trading points and ending the quarter tied at 35-35. The final quarter was a back-and-forth battle, showcasing the basketball prowess of both teams, renowned for their excellence in small school basketball.

The tension escalated as Bogue Chitto briefly took the lead at 46-45 with just 17.8 seconds remaining, thanks to a layup by sophomore forward Tripp McCaffrey. However, Ingomar quickly responded, with senior forward Jack Denton securing a crucial score in the paint and converting a free throw, putting Ingomar in the lead at 48-46.

Despite a last-second 3-point attempt by Bogue Chitto, Ingomar emerged victorious, sparking jubilant celebrations among their supporters. Head coach Jonathan Ashley praised Denton’s pivotal performance, highlighting his 15 rebounds and 11 points, which significantly impacted the game’s outcome.

Notably, Ingomar gained its first lead with 5:30 remaining, following a 3-pointer by Charles Faulkner, propelling them to a 39-37 advantage. The Falcons extended their lead to 41-37, only for Bogue Chitto to narrow the gap to two points, displaying resilience and determination.

Shomari Jenkins, a senior guard for Bogue Chitto, delivered an impressive performance, contributing 15 points and leading his team’s offensive efforts. Despite Jenkins’ standout performance, Bogue Chitto fell short in the final moments, marking a disappointing end to their season.

Reflecting on the game, Jenkins expressed his disappointment, acknowledging the team’s missed opportunity. Head coach Marc Howard also commended Jenkins’ unwavering passion and dedication, emphasizing his significant role in the team’s journey.

Ultimately, Ingomar’s resilience and strategic plays secured them the coveted victory, solidifying their reputation as a formidable force in high school basketball.
