Indie Game Developers Launch Triple-I Initiative Showcase

The indie game development community is set to launch its own showcase, the Triple-I Initiative, featuring a lineup of renowned independent game developers. The showcase, scheduled for April 10th, aims to spotlight fan-favorite games, hype up established indie classics, and introduce new IPs. The event is expected to be a 45-minute unhosted presentation, comprising trailers, reveals, and surprise game or demo releases.

Notable developers such as the creators of Dead Cells, Slay The Spire, Darkest Dungeon, Spiritfarer, Terraria, and V Rising have joined forces to organize the Triple-I Initiative. The initiative is a response to the perceived lack of representation for indie games in existing showcases, which often prioritize blockbuster titles and celebrity appearances.

The Triple-I Initiative is not intended for direct financial gain, as there will be no sponsors or advertising. All participating developers are contributing to cover the production costs. The idea for the showcase originated at Evil Empire, the current developers of Dead Cells, who felt the need for a platform that catered to games falling between the realms of triple-A and smaller indies.

The initiative reflects the growing concern among indie game developers about the challenges of finding an audience and the limitations of existing industry showcases. According to Benjamin Laulan, co-founder of Evil Empire, the Triple-I Initiative aims to fill the gap in the showcase landscape and provide a platform for indie games with moderate budgets.

The success of the inaugural showcase will determine whether the Triple-I Initiative becomes a recurring event. The organizers hope to address the underrepresentation of indie games in the gaming industry and create a dedicated platform to celebrate and promote independent game development.
