IKEA, the renowned furniture retailer, is set to open a new store on the popular gaming platform, Roblox. The exciting news is that players will have the opportunity to work in this virtual IKEA store and get paid for their efforts!
Launching on June 24th, ‘The Co-Worker Game’ on Roblox will allow fans to immerse themselves in the world of IKEA, experiencing what it’s like to work in a virtual universe. This innovative concept by IKEA introduces a unique approach to careers, where non-linear career paths and lateral moves across departments are encouraged.
For the first time, IKEA is venturing into mainstream gaming with ‘The Co-Worker Game’ on Roblox. Players will have the chance to take on paid roles within the virtual store, mirroring real-life job experiences. Applications for these paid positions are currently open until June 16th, with 10 new co-worker roles available.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to showcase their skills, assist customers, and even progress to different departments, just like in a real job. The virtual store will not only feature paid co-workers but will also be open to the broader Roblox community, inviting gamers and IKEA enthusiasts to explore and engage in the virtual IKEA world.
Players can expect to interact with various aspects of the IKEA store, such as the Swedish Food Market and Bistro, where they can serve up delicious meatballs, or explore the showrooms filled with iconic IKEA products like the popular HEMNES range. Additionally, participants will have the chance to win exclusive IKEA User-Generated Content (UGC).
In a statement, Darren Taylor, the Country People and Culture Manager at IKEA UK and Ireland, expressed excitement about the initiative, highlighting IKEA’s unique approach to career progression. At IKEA, employees have the flexibility to switch roles, change departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game and in real life.
Virtual interviews for shortlisted applicants will be conducted between June 14th and June 18th, 2024, for this fully remote virtual role. Successful candidates will receive an hourly IKEA Co-Worker rate for their time spent in the game. ‘IKEA on Roblox’ is developed by The Gang, a Swedish game design company, and is scheduled to launch on June 24th.
