Hori Launches Wireless Horipad for Steam in the U.S. Ahead of December Release

Hori, a well-known gaming accessory manufacturer, is set to launch its officially licensed Steam controller in the United States, marking a significant addition to the gaming peripherals market. Priced at $60, this innovative gamepad is now available for preorder on Amazon, with an expected release date of December 16, 2024.

The controller, known as the Wireless Horipad for Steam, was initially introduced in Japan in October 2024. It features dedicated buttons designed specifically for accessing Steam menus, making it an ideal choice for gamers who frequently utilize Steam’s Big Picture Mode or play on handheld devices. Additionally, the controller is equipped with touch sensors on its joysticks, which allow for motion controls and enhanced gameplay flexibility.

One of the standout features of Hori’s new controller is its seamless connectivity options. Gamers can connect the device to their computers or Steam Decks via Bluetooth, or by using the included USB-A Bluetooth receiver. This versatility ensures that players can enjoy a hassle-free gaming experience across different platforms.

In terms of battery life, Hori claims that the wireless gamepad can last up to an impressive 12 hours on a full charge. For those moments when the battery runs low during an intense gaming session, users can conveniently plug in the USB cable to continue playing without interruption.

Customization is also a key aspect of the Wireless Horipad. Gamers can remap buttons and adjust various settings, including stick sensitivity, gyro controls, and turbo settings, directly from the controller menu in Steam. This level of personalization allows players to tailor their gaming experience to their preferences.

However, prospective buyers should note that the Hori controller does lack certain features commonly found in other Steam-specific controllers. Notably, it does not include rumble packs, a headset jack, or a trackpad, which may be a drawback for some gamers seeking a more feature-rich experience.

Despite these omissions, the Wireless Horipad appears to be a solid option for those looking to enhance their gaming setup. It serves as a practical extension of the Steam Deck, providing a familiar layout and functionality that aligns with the Steam ecosystem. The absence of the ultra-customizable Steam controller, which was discontinued by Valve in 2019, leaves a gap in the market that Hori’s offering aims to fill.

As the gaming community eagerly anticipates the release of Hori’s Steam controller, it is clear that there is a demand for quality peripherals that enhance the gaming experience. With its competitive pricing and thoughtful design, the Wireless Horipad is poised to make a significant impact in the U.S. gaming market.
