Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Focus on Game Development Despite Presidential Role

Elden Ring’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the president of FromSoftware, recently joked about his role as president, stating that about 95% of his time is still dedicated to directing games. Known for his work on games like Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, Miyazaki’s focus on game development remains unwavering despite his presidential position.

FromSoftware, once known for niche titles like Armored Core, has seen a significant shift in popularity following the success of Elden Ring, which has sold over 25 million copies. Despite the studio’s newfound fame, Miyazaki continues to prioritize game development over his executive duties.

In an interview with the Guardian, Miyazaki expressed his passion for creating games and mentoring younger directors within the company. While he values his role as president, he prefers to be actively involved in game development, stating that he only has about six months of executive experience based on his time allocation.

Miyazaki, who has yet to create his ‘ideal fantasy RPG,’ is expected to remain dedicated to game development for the foreseeable future. His commitment to hands-on game creation sets him apart as a leader who remains deeply connected to the creative process.
