Renowned game developer Hideo Kojima, best known for his work on the Metal Gear Solid series, has announced a new project that is set to mark a return to the espionage genre. The new action-espionage project, named Physint, was unveiled during the State of Play presentation on January 31.
While no visual assets were shared during the announcement, Kojima revealed that Physint will be a new, original IP, and full development will commence after the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which is scheduled for launch in 2025.
Kojima described Physint as not just a game, but also a movie in terms of its visual style, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound. The exact nature of this hybrid project remains shrouded in mystery, with Kojima urging fans to ‘stay tuned’ for further details.
It was also hinted that Kojima Productions is collaborating with Sony on Physint, with references to the PlayStation company’s music and film departments. However, it has not been confirmed whether the game will be a PlayStation exclusive.
Moreover, Kojima mentioned that Physint will represent ‘the culmination of [his] work,’ indicating that the project holds significant personal importance for the acclaimed developer.
Aside from Physint and Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions is concurrently working on a third game titled OD, which is an Xbox-exclusive project created in partnership with renowned filmmaker Jordan Peele. The studio unveiled OD at the 2023 Game Awards, showcasing a nearly 10-minute trailer featuring intriguing elements such as hand masks, stop motion puppets, and intense combat sequences.
With these ambitious projects in the pipeline, Kojima and his team are evidently immersed in a flurry of creative activity, promising exciting prospects for the future of gaming.
