HFStival, the iconic alt-rock music festival based in Washington, DC, is set to make a grand return in 2024. The festival, which had been dormant for years, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, at Nationals Park.
The announcement of the festival’s revival came through the social media accounts of the renowned 9:30 Club and Nationals Park in Washington, DC. HFStival, originally organized by the beloved alt-rock radio station WHFS, had a successful run from 1990 to 2006. During its peak, it stood as the largest music festival on the east coast, attracting up to 90,000 attendees annually. The festival boasted lineups featuring top acts like Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Green Day, and Eminem.
Following WHFS’s format change to a Latin pop station in 2005, HFStival had its final edition in 2006 before going on an indefinite hiatus. A brief revival took place in the early 2010s with smaller events at Merriweather Post Pavilion, only to go on hiatus again in 2012.
The return of HFStival in 2024 has sparked excitement among music enthusiasts and festival-goers. With the festival’s rich history and reputation for delivering stellar performances, the upcoming event is highly anticipated.
