Hearty Acquisitions Inc. Recalls Tomato Basil With Rice Product Over Undeclared Soy Allergen

A recent food recall has been issued by Hearty Acquisitions Inc. over a potential allergen that was not declared on the label of one of its products. The company has recalled its Tomato Basil With Rice product due to the presence of soy, which was not listed as an ingredient. Additionally, the Butternut Squash Bisque product was mislabeled as the tomato and basil product, prompting the allergy alert.

According to the statement provided by Hearty Acquisitions to Newsweek, the issue was brought to the company’s attention by a distributor, and immediate notifications were sent to vendors. The company assured that the error was swiftly identified, and only a small amount of the mislabeled product was distributed to four local stores in New York City.

While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall, the potential presence of soy poses a risk to individuals with soy allergies. University of California San Francisco Health highlighted that soy allergies are among the most common food allergies in infants and children, with symptoms ranging from abdominal pain and nausea to more severe reactions such as anaphylaxis.

Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can lead to a drop in blood pressure and airway constriction, causing life-threatening consequences. Hearty Acquisitions emphasized on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website that individuals with soy allergies are at risk of experiencing serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the affected products.

The recall specifically pertains to Hearty Acquisitions’ 16 oz containers of the Tomato Basil With Rice product, with an expiration date of March 22. The affected products were distributed to Food Garden Market, Windsor Market, Lincoln Market, and Food Universe in New York.

Consumers are urged to check their products for the 16-ounce clear plastic package labeled as ‘Tomato Basil With Rice 3/22/2024’ with lot #03222024 on the top side lid. Anyone who has purchased the affected product is advised not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Food recalls play a crucial role in safeguarding public health, and it is essential for consumers to stay informed about such alerts to prevent potential health risks. Stay updated with the latest news and recalls to ensure the safety of you and your family.
