Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Family Sue True Crime Content Creator for Fraud and Defamation
GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD and her family have taken legal action against a producer and true crime content creator, accusing her of fraud, breach of contract, defamation, and more. The defendant in the suit is April Johns, also known as Franchesca or Fancy, Macelli.
According to the suit filed in Livingston County, Missouri court last month, Blanchard and her family entered into a life rights deal with Macelli in 2017 while Gypsy was still in prison for her involvement in the murder of her abusive mother, Dee Dee. Macelli, through her production company, Mad Ginger Entertainment, promised to “produce media projects on Gypsy’s behalf.”
Over the following years, the Blanchards provided Macelli with access to interviews, personal documents, and evidence related to the case, including medical records, family photos, crime scene photos, police videos, and court transcripts. However, in 2019, the Blanchards decided not to renew their contract with Macelli, citing her failure to deliver any marketable content and her confrontational behavior regarding Gypsy’s relationship with then-fiancee Ken Urker.
Following the end of their working relationship, the Blanchards claim that Macelli began posting sporadic content about Gypsy on her social media accounts. The content allegedly focused on the falling out between Macelli and the Blanchard family, insinuating that they were hiding information. After Gypsy’s parole in October 2023, Macelli’s content reportedly became more aggressive and frequent, with some accounts being monetized or subscription-based.
The lawsuit alleges that Macelli shared materials provided by the Blanchards, including medical records, crime scene reports, and personal phone numbers, without authorization. Additionally, Macelli is accused of making baseless claims that the Blanchards were stalking her and inciting others to do the same, without providing any evidence to support these allegations.
