Former Central Heights Blue Devil Grayson Rodriguez secured his 10th win of the season on Tuesday night as the Baltimore Orioles triumphed over the Seattle Mariners with a 2-0 victory. The right-handed pitcher started strong by retiring the first eight batters of the game before conceding his first hit to Josh Rojas in the bottom of the third inning.
Rodriguez showcased his skill by getting out of a tough spot in the fourth inning after allowing a hit and a walk. The Orioles’ offense came through in the top of the fourth, with Anthony Santander driving in Gunnar Henderson to give the team a 1-0 lead, a lead they maintained for the rest of the game.
Despite facing some pressure in the bottom of the fourth, Rodriguez managed to induce a double play to keep the Mariners at bay. He continued his dominance in the fifth inning, securing another 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.
In the sixth inning, a controversial play occurred when Rodriguez’s throw to second base was initially ruled safe, loading the bases for the Mariners. However, after a challenge by Orioles manager Brandon Hyde, the call was overturned, and the Orioles escaped the inning unscathed.
Rodriguez returned for the seventh inning, striking out a batter before being replaced after pitching 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out eight. With this win, Rodriguez’s record for the season stands at an impressive 10-3 with a 3.45 ERA.
The Baltimore Orioles’ victory over the Seattle Mariners improved their season record to 54-31, placing them in first position in their division.
