Grandfather’s Weight Loss Journey Leads to London Marathon Participation

A grandfather who underwent a remarkable weight loss journey is gearing up to participate in the prestigious London Marathon. John Durkin, 52, once weighed a staggering 21st 8lbs (136kg) but has since shed over ten stone, now weighing 10st 11lbs (68kg). His transformation was spurred by a desire to lead a healthier lifestyle after indulging in takeaways during lockdown alongside his partner, Jo Beveridge, 50, who also managed to drop significant weight.

Both John and Jo recognized the need for a change after the pandemic-induced unhealthy eating habits took a toll on their bodies. With determination and commitment, they adopted healthier routines, bidding farewell to high-calorie meals and embracing a more active lifestyle. Their dedication paid off, with Jo’s weight dropping from 17st 6lbs (110kg) to a svelte 11 stone (69kg).

The couple’s inspiring journey was acknowledged by Slimming World, who honored them as the ‘couple of the year.’ Now, John is preparing to tackle the London Marathon, a 26.2-mile endurance test, with the goal of raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

John’s story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of healthy choices. By prioritizing their well-being and committing to positive changes, John and Jo have not only improved their own lives but are also set to make a difference by supporting a worthy cause through their marathon endeavor.
