Google’s AI Assistant Gemini Expands to Germany with Android App

Google’s AI assistant Gemini has made its way to Germany as an Android app, now available for download on devices through the Play Store. This innovative app, which has been a staple in the USA, is now expanding its reach to Austria and Switzerland as well.

Currently exclusive to Android devices, the Gemini app is set to launch on iOS in the following weeks. The system requirements for Android are relatively modest, with Android 10 and 2 GB of RAM being the minimum specifications needed to run the app. This means that even older devices should be able to support Gemini without any issues.

Users in Germany can now interact with Gemini in German, receiving responses in the same language. However, in a test conducted by heise online, it was noted that Gemini occasionally responded in English.

One of the key features of Gemini is its ability to replace the Google Assistant on Android devices, providing answers to various queries, including weather updates. This seamless transition allows users to access Gemini through familiar methods, such as the power button or voice commands like ‘Hey, Google’.

Similar to other AI chatbots, Gemini can respond to text or voice input, as well as process images. For instance, users can take a photo of a flat tire and receive repair instructions or links to helpful videos, showcasing Gemini’s versatility.

In a test scenario where Gemini was asked for instructions regarding a flat tire, the results were varied. While Gemini correctly identified the object as a computer mouse, it struggled to determine the exact model despite the logo being clearly visible. In contrast, Google’s image recognition system Lens had no trouble identifying the specific model.
