Google to Invest $2.3 Billion in Central Ohio Data Center Campuses

Google has announced plans to invest an additional $2.3 billion in its Central Ohio data center campuses this year, bringing the total regional investment to $6.7 billion since 2019. The tech giant made this announcement during a recent event at its south Columbus data center campus, highlighting its commitment to the region.

With three data center complexes in Central Ohio, including locations in New Albany and Lancaster, Google’s investment reflects its confidence in the area’s workforce and infrastructure. Mark Isakowitz, Google’s vice president of government affairs and public policy, praised Central Ohio for providing the necessary resources to meet customer demand.

Google’s data centers play a crucial role in supporting digital services like Cloud, Search, Maps, and Workspace platforms. The company’s ongoing investment in these facilities will not only accommodate its expanding customer base but also drive advancements in artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

The new funding will facilitate the expansion of existing campuses, enhancing operational capabilities across the region. Despite ongoing construction efforts, Google’s data centers in Central Ohio are already operational, with hundreds of employees working on-site and over 1,200 construction workers involved in buildout.

Last year, Google’s presence in the region contributed over $14 billion to the local economy, underscoring the significant impact of its investments. As part of its commitment to the community, Google has also allocated a $100,000 grant to the Hamilton Local School District, supporting workforce development and educational initiatives.

By investing in local schools, Google aims to nurture future talent and foster community growth. This strategic investment not only creates job opportunities but also lays the foundation for a thriving and innovative ecosystem in Central Ohio.
